Full Description: Krispy Kreme opened its doors on July 13, in 1937. The whole story began when Vernon Rudolph bought a secret recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts from a French chef in New Orleans. He rented a building in historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He began to sell his Krispy Kreme doughnuts to local grocery stores until people began to ask about buying them directly from his company. So he turned his small rented business to a doughnut store and began to sell directly to his customers.
The Krispy Kreme franchise has been growing steadily for a number of years. When Vernon Rudolph died in 1973, the company's growth slowed as it was reorganized for sale to the Beatrice Foods Company three years later in 1976. By 1982, however, a small group of franchisees was able to buy Krispy Kreme back from Beatrice Foods, offering the company a renewed focus on the hot, glazed doughnut experience. By 1996, the company had expanded past the southeast, and had opened a store in New York City.
By 1999, the Krispy Kreme franchise expansion was well underway with a new store in California. In 1997, Krispy Kreme had turned sixty years old and celebrated the occasion with even more expansion. Today, seventy years after opening the first Krispy Kreme franchise location, the company still has not slowed down. The first international Krispy Kreme was opened in Canada in 2001, and Krispy Crème continues to expand internationally while offering delicious and exciting new products to the public. Even today, the Krispy Kreme franchise has a lot of really great plans, urging fans to stay tuned for something great.
